It is widely agreed amongst Western governments that Israelis have a right to defend themselves. They can bomb a country for weeks in retaliation to the kidnapping of two of its soldiers. If it kills thousands of civilians of that country along they way, so be it. For one rocket that killed one of its citizens, it can also, for days and nights, terrorize and kill Palestinians women and children. Yes, children. The media reported yesterday that a one month baby had been killed by a lost Israeli bullet in Gaza.
To further protect its existence, Israel maintains the only remaining apartheid constitution in the world where citizens from Arabic descent do not enjoy all the rights Jewish citizens enjoy. It builds a wall around its borders to keep unwanted crowds outside and goes to sleep under this blanket of security every night. It imposed a blockade on Gaza, depriving Palestinians of water, electricity, food and other basic necessities.
While claiming it wants peace, Israel always refused to recognize a duly elected government for and by the Palestinian people. All Western powers urged Palestinian to vote themselves a government as a sign of their commitment to the peace process. They did so, voting for the party it thought would best represent its interests. The Western powers did not approve of their choice therefore it condemned this new government and refused to recognize it as the legitimate spokesman of the Palestinian people. Furthermore, they did everything they could to ostracise this government and cut all funding to the Palestinian people. Meanwhile, for years, Palestinian had to entertain discussions with Arial Sharon, considered a war criminal by many Arabs and condemned even by its own people for his role in the Sabra and Chatila massacres.
People around the world wonder how peace will ever be achieved in the Middle-East. Is the two States solution the way to go? Why not make Jerusalem an international city? Should the United States relinquish some of its unconditional support to Israel? Or should the United States pressure Israel and withdraw is military support?
There is only one answer to the question: no justice, no peace …
